Giving back
As ibericode, the company behind the Mailchimp for WordPress plugin, we are proud members of 1% for the Planet.
This means that 1% of our annual revenue goes towards environmental nonprofits that strive to make a difference.
About 1% for the Planet
We first came across this great initiative through our friends over at Metorik and loved the idea of such a commitment.
Sure, we could do without the middle-man and donate directly to non-profits we deem important, as we have done for years. But we think there's real benefit in having a community striving for doing sustainable business while encouraging others to do so as well.
That's why we've become a member. And are now writing about it here, hoping others who are in a similar position will read this and join too.
Our planet is in desperate need of care, yet only 3% of all philanthropy goes toward environmental giving. We can do better. But we need to do it together.
If you are in a position where joining 1% for the Planet is possible, we hope you will consider it.

Are you really donating 1% of revenue? Or just profits?
We are donating 1% of all revenue, not just profits.
Why be vocal? Why not give directly?
We came across 1% for the Planet through a company we do business with, proving that the community effect definitely helps spread the word. But there's more reasons we chose this route: accountability, transparency, consulting, to name just a few.
It's easy to come up with excuses to postpone donations for a year if there is no one holding you accountable. It's impossible to skip years if you want to be a member of 1% for the planet.
